AYSO Six Philosophies: Good Sportsmanship

Nothing makes January and February fly by faster than preparing for the spring soccer season! Three of us just returned from the Southwest AYSO Expo in Tucson. We received some great training and exchanged new ideas to strengthen Region 138. More on that later. I want to continue writing about the six AYSO philosophies and what they mean. Today is "Good Sportsmanship." Seems like a no brainer when talking about youth sports but it's quite amazing how people will put the result of the game ahead of the people (kids) that are playing it. AYSO wants to develop soccer players but also good citizens that respect each other. We want kids and young adults that will play hard on the field, but know that when the final whistle blows it's still a game. That a loss is not a failure but simply another opportunity to learn. "Good Sportsmanship" is another AYSO philosophy I can believe in!
