AYSO Six Philosophies: Everyone Plays

A couple of weeks ago I kicked off a review of AYSO's six philosophies with "Open Registration." Open registration is essential if you want players to have a place to feel comfortable and give soccer a try. Is it enough? Not if they don't get to play. That's why the next philosophy is "Everyone Plays." National AYSO rules require each player to play in at least half of every match, even at the competitive levels of EXTRA and United. Why? Players don't develop when they're only fetching water bottles for the starting eleven. Real development comes through experiencing the game on the field and learning from mistakes. As the mantra goes "the best teacher of the game, is the game itself."
